【摘要】:1.1Thisspecificationcoverscompositeribbedsteelpipe,precoatedandpolyethylenelinedintendedforuseforgravityflowsanitarysewers,stormsewers,andotherspecialapplicationssuchaswatertransmissionpipe,rehabilitationpipe,sliplinepipe,andirrigationpipewhereextracorrosionandabrasionresistancearerequired.Thesteelsheetusedinthefabricationofthepipehasapolymercoatingoverametalliccoatingofzinconbothsides.Inaddition,asthepipeisbeingfabricated,theribsarefilledwithpolyethyleneandthenapolyethylenelinerisextrudedontotheinteriorsurface.1.2Theexteriorpolymerprecoatingprovidesextraprotectionofthesteelagainstsoilsidecorrosion,inadditiontothatprovidedbythemetalliccoating,andalsoprovidesadielectricbarrierforcathodicprotection.Theinteriorpolymerprecoatingprovidesanadhesivelayerbetweenthegalvanizedsteelandthepolyethylenelining.Theappliedliningprovidesinternalprotectionagainstcorrosion,erosion,andabrasion.Byfillingtheribwhichhasadeltoidshape(smallerattheopeninginthepipewallthanatthebottomoftherib),thepolyethyleneismechanicallyconnectedtothepipewallandthepolyethylenelineristhenthermallybondedtothefilledrib.1.3Thisspecificationdoesnotincluderequirementsforbedding,backfill,ortherelationshipbetweenearthcoverloadandsheetthicknessofthepipe.Experiencehasshownthatthesuccessfulperformanceofthisproductdependsupontheproperselectionofsheetthickness,typeofbeddingandbackfill,controlledmanufactureintheplant,andcareintheinstallation.TheinstallationprocedureisdescribedinPracticeA798.1.4Thisspecificationisapplicabletoordersineitherinch-poundunitsasA978,orinSIunitsasA978M.Inch-poundunitsandSIunitsarenotnecessarilyequivalent.SIunitsareshowninbracketsinthetextforclarity,buttheyaretheapplicablevalueswhenthematerialisorderedtoA978M.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
